Eugene Dotson Hollie, 84, was born on August 26, 1940, and passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, at Lynchburg Health and Rehab in Lynchburg, VA, where he had been a resident for the past eight years.Eugene was a retired electrician who found joy in life's simple pleasures, such as taking bus trips with his beloved wife, Rachel. He will be remembered for his kind spirit while residing at the nursing home. He loved sharing treats especially honey buns with the staff and residents. A graveside service to honor Eugene’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Mausoleum at Altavista Memorial Park. Pastor Shelton Miles will officiate the service.Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Owen Hollie and Lelia Scruggs Hollie; his wife, Rachel Miles Hollie; his sister, Dorothy Hypes; his brother, Jerry Wayne Hollie; nephews, Michael Phillips and Keith Hollie; and niece, Melinda Hollie.He is survived by his brothers, Buddie A. Hollie (Carolyn), Oliver O. Hollie (Nancy), and Kent J. Hollie (Peggy); his sister, Shirley H. Phillips; brother-in-law, Eugene Miles; sister-in-law, Betty Miles, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Eugene faced a long battle with health challenges with unwavering strength and courage. His journey has now brought him to the victory of eternal peace and comfort with his Lord.The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Lynchburg Health and Rehab, Nyar Hospice, and Shanthi Rondot, NP of Optum Health Care, for the compassionate care provided to Eugene during his illness.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lynchburg Health and Rehab Angel Tree, Attention Administrator, 5615 Seminole Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24502.Arrangements are being handled by Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
