Evelyn Elizabeth Moorman Carter
Evelyn Elizabeth Moorman Carter, 89, of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned to her eternal rest Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was born December 20, 1935, in Callands, Virginia, to the late Charlie Aaron Moorman and Evelyn C. Jones Moorman.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna G. Franklin; sons, Howard J. Carter, Jr., Bishop Christopher A. Carter; sisters, Bessie Saunders, Jean Scott, Barbara Moorman, Janice Taylor, Sandra Martin; brothers, Roy Moorman and James Moorman.
Evelyn was of the Christian faith and was a devoted member of Chain Breakers Church where she was the mother of the church. She was an example of determination as evidenced by her return to school at age 65 where she completed her GED at Patrick Henry Community College. She had diverse interests which included a love of reading, planting flowers, cooking, shopping, eating out, and wearing an array of beautiful hats. But above all, she loved her family. There was no doubt that her grandchildren were the love of her life. Evelyn lived life to its fullest and her memory will long be cherished by those who loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth D. Carter, Debra C. Martin, Ronda C. Teague (Larry); son, Frederick M. Carter (Pamla); and sister, Selma Powell.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM at United in Christ Ministries in Eden, North Carolina, with Pastor Courtney Stockton officiating. Interment will follow at Eden Gardens located at 121 Shady Grove Road, Eden, North Carolina. A floating visitation will be Friday, June 13, 2025, at 2:00-5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. The family will also receive visitors at the home from 2:00-7:00 PM on the following days: Tuesday, June 10, Wednesday, June 11, and Thursday, June 12, 2025. There will be a visitation one half hour prior to the service.
