Evelyn Ruth Lawrence
Evelyn “Ruth” Hopkins Lawrence, age 64, of Danville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
Ms. Lawrence was born on June 20, 1961, to the late Ruth Yeatts Hopkins and Linwood Hopkins.
Ruth loved life and would do anything for her family and grandchildren; family was everything to her. Ms. Lawrence went by many names, “Ruth” and “Evelyn” for example, but the two that always meant the most to her were, “Mama” and “Gram- Jam!”
Ruth loved to go fishing as well as attend wrestling matches. She also enjoyed the beach, lighthouses, gardening, flowers, and her cat!
Ms. Lawrence is survived by her daughter, Karol Dixon (Stephen); sons, Chris Lawrence (Melissa), John Lawrence (George), and Nathanael Lawrence; ex-husband, John W. Lawrence; sister, Linda Hopkins; grandchildren, Savannah Toliver (Sean), Brian Lawrence, Celeste Taylor, Sophia Lawrence, Amelia Lawrence, Elaina Lawrence, Roland Lawrence, Cameron Dixon, and Colby Dixon; great-grandchild, Elizabeth Marie Boyd; and a bonus grandson, Zach Boyd.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Linard Roy Hopkins and a special friend, Jay Bohannon.
A funeral service for Ms. Lawrence will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Services – West End Chapel with Pastor Judith Thomas officiating; internment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. A visitation for Ms. Lawrence will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 6-8 p.m.
At other times, the family will have friends over at the residence of Karol Dixon to celebrate the life of Ms. Evelyn Lawrence.
