Evelyn Sullivan Wright
Evelyn Sullivan Wright, 83, of Forest, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Born on June 12 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Sullivan and Pauline B. Sullivan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Phillip E. Wright; her two sons, Benjamin Wright and Michael Wright; and her brother-in-law, Robert Baxter.
Evelyn dedicated many years of service as a tax auditor for the Internal Revenue Service before her retirement. Earlier in her career, she taught school in Amherst County, where she enjoyed helping and encouraging her students.
A quiet and gentle woman, Evelyn found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading, playing cards, and watching the birds that visited her yard. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah Wieringo and husband, Kevin; her four sisters, Sharon Baxter, Janet Slough and husband, Richard, Susan Gilstrap and husband, Lon, and Betty Jo Theodorakis; her four grandchildren, Tyler Witt and wife, Megan, Joshua Witt, Daniel Wright, and Brent Wright; and her great-granddaughter, Mattie Evelyn Witt.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pauline Starnes officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery.
