Excie Dudley Morris
Mrs. Excie Dudley Morris, age 102, of Martinsville, VA, passed away peacefully in her home, on May 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Mrs. Morris was born on October 8, 1922, in Franklin County, VA to Walter Bennett Dudley and Alpha Louise Morris Dudley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Anderson Morris, sister Alta Dudley Bayne (Ernest), brother Gary Wayne Dudley, brother Donald Bennett Dudley, baby brother Cyril, and an infant sister. She was also preceded in death by her nephew Gary Wayne Dudley Jr., and niece Anne Tyree Dudley Russell (Alan).
She was employed by Dupont for 33 years working in the P.T. Lab. She was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served as a Primary Sunday School Teacher and served on the Communion Committee.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Shirley Anne Tyree Dudley of Rocky Mt, VA, sister-in-law Vicki Cooper Dudley of Fries, VA, nephew Kevin Dudley of Fries, VA, and niece Lori Dudley of Roanoke, VA. Additional surviving nieces include Libby Wharton, Susan Thompson, and Mary Collins.
Excie was a Godly woman who was very kind to everyone, and all who met her loved her. She will be remembered fondly by her family and friends for her smile and sweet nature. Excie will be missed by many, especially by her niece Lori who enjoyed weekly visits and laughs.
Her family would like to thank her many wonderful neighbors and church friends who visited often with gifts of food and laughs. They also want to thank her many caretakers who were also her friends. They particularly want to thank Gail Ashburn for her two decades of service to Dickie and Excie and for her special support in their final days. A special thanks to Excie’s friend, Mr. Mark Sparks, from McCabe Memorial Baptist Church who will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Excie’s name to McCabe Baptist Church, the local SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM-Noon at the Collins-McKee Stone Funeral Home at 109 Broad St. in Martinsville, VA. Graveside Service will be on the same day at 1 PM at Oakwood Cemetery at 107 Cemetery St. in Martinsville, VA. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Richard “Dickie” Morris. A light lunch will follow the graveside service at the McCabe Memorial Baptist Church.
