Fannie Elizabeth Stanley Obituary Fannie Elizabeth “Lizzie” Holt Stanley, 89, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 1, 2024. Born on June 8, 1935, in Giles County, Virginia to the late Lee Roy and Hattie Gaye Holt, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John Edd Stanley, nine siblings, and an infant grandson.As the third of eleven children, Lizzie loved her big family and learned many valuable lessons with which to care for her own family. She was a wonderful homemaker. She cared for her family, was a fantastic cook and cake baker, and was a second mom to so many of her children’s friends and neighborhood kids. After her children were grown, she went to work with Salem City Schools, serving in several school cafeterias, lastly Andrew Lewis Middle School. Lizzie loved her church family and was a faithful member of Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church for 59 years. She loved chickens and much of her home was cheerfully decorated in a farmhouse chicken motif. Above all, she adored her family, was a great friend, and was loved by so many.Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Nannie Hoosier, Mary (Alvin) Hodge, and Fred (Jenny) Stanley; grandchildren, John David Hoosier, Dana (Scott) Hurt, Wesley (Amanda) Hodge, Amanda (Steve), Wade, Beth (Travis) Mabes, Tommy (Melissa) Hodge, Jamie (Amanda) Lovecraft, Chris (Tabitha) Yarbrough, and Gracie Yarbrough; great-grandchildren, Colton (Damie Cromwell) Mabes, Cooper Mabes, Carsyn Mabes, Paisley Hodge, Kristie Hoosier (her mother, Andrea Williams), Macy Hodge, Corrie Elizabeth Mabes, Nathan Hodge, Faith Ann Hodge, Brentley Yarbrough, Hudson Yarbrough, Walker Yarbrough, Easton Yarbrough, and Levanaha Yarbrough; sister, Patsy Telligman; brother-in-law, George Robertson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will begin in the chapel at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Brian Gordon officiating. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park.The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care and loving kindness given to both Lizzie and to their family during this most difficult time.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society so that perhaps one day there may be a cure.
