Fay White
Fay White Obituary On November 22, 2024, Fay Yvonne Fogle White was reunited with Doug, the love of her life. Married for 61 years before Doug passed in 2012, the two embraced a life of beach trips, golf outings, travel, and card games. Trips and activities almost always included family and friends, so the fun, laughter, and camaraderie were shared by many.Fay was born in Roanoke in 1932 into a house full of girls. Fay had five sisters and, a few years later, two brothers. One of her favorite stories to tell was that when her first brother was born, her father firmly insisted that he did not want to see a baby doll in the boy’s arms.Fay enjoyed a career of over 30 years with C&P Telephone Company. She began as an operator and, over the years, worked her way into a managerial position. In a time when many women did not work outside the home, Fay balanced a career and her family, at times working a split shift so she could be home with her boys after school.Church activities played an important role in Fay’s life. She was very active in the Community of Faith Church, serving as a youth teacher and in other positions for many years. Fay also participated in mission trips to Mexico and Africa.Of all the roles she played in her very full life, mother/grandmother/great-grandmother is the one Fay cherished the most. Nothing thrilled her more than cuddling a grandbaby, to the point of Doug joking that he only got to play with his grand-dogs, not the kids. Grandma Fay was always the one that the grandkids turned to for advice and comfort.Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Douglas White; her parents Warren Wayler Fogle and Sallie Whitfield Fogle; and siblings Ellen Thompson, Winona Taylor, Shirley Thomas, Wanda Caudell, Ferneze Fogle, and Aaron Fogle. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Jerome Fogle (Barbara); sons Steve White (Katrina) and Glenn White (Marcie Renner); grandchildren Nathan White (Lauren), Maggie Lantzy (Daniel), and Douglas White (Carly Celestino); and great-grandchildren Adam Lantzy, Hailey White, Claire Lantzy, and Dean White; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Fogle. Although she was only able to meet baby Dean through video calls, he will grow up hearing stories of the love she had for all in her family. Our family would like to thank the staff of Salem Terrace at Harrogate for filling the last five years of Fay’s life with friendship, activities, and loving care. We also acknowledge the aid that Good Samaritan Hospice provided in her final days.A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Sherwood Memorial Park at 1250 East Main Street in Salem, Virginia. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be followed immediately by a reception at Abundant Life Church at 424 Chamberlain Lane in Salem. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Fay’s memory to American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
