Flora Sweeney Haley

Flora Sweeney Haley, 93, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away at her home Friday, October 2, 2026. She was born February 23, 1933, in Kentucky to the late Thomas Sweeney and Margaret James Sweeney.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James William Haley; son, James William Haley, Jr.; sisters, Sally Borders, Tennessee Short, Polly Prater, Doris Jean Mazakas, Louise McMinn; and brothers, Willard Sweeney, Woodrow Sweeney, Jimmy Sweeney, Earl Sweeney, and Jack Sweeney.

Flora was of the Baptist faith. As a homemaker, she poured her life into her family and created a home filled with love and laughter. She spent many years babysitting, investing in the hearts and lives of numerous children. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Charles Thomas Haley (Dottie); sister, Louise McMinn; grandchildren, Michelle Haley, Joshua Shannon Haley, Thomas Haley, Lauren Haley; and great-grandchildren, Grace Haley, Natalie Haley, Alyssa Haley, Chiara Haley, Ida Haley, and Luise Haley.

A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia, with Ernest Carter officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the home (240 Stones Dairy Road, Martinsville, Virginia).
