Floyd “Vernie” Laverne Sports, 81, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He was born March 4, 1942, in Blenheim, South Carolina., to the late George Wilber Sports and Mary Alice Gunter Sports.Floyd was of the Pentecostal Faith. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar, and sitting on his porch. He was quick to joke, even quicker to smile, and loved his grandchildren. He was the owner and operator of his family business Martinsville Welding and Radiator Works for 43 years.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Jean Copeland Sports; sisters, Ruth Mosely, Bet Ford, Pat Boone, Viola “Vi” Chavis, and brothers, Olin Sports, Grady (Bubble) Sports, John Sports, and Carroll Sports.He is survived by his son Pete Sports (Heather); sisters, Tiny Hood (Aaron), of Blenheim, South Carolina, and Jean Gray (Ray), of Blenheim, South Carolina; brother, Donnie Sports (Karen), of Camden, South Carolina; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Harris (Donnie) and Cody Sports (Julie); and great-grandchildren, Aiden Ramsey and Elainia Easterling.All services are private.Wright Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the family.
