Frances Mitchell Holland, 98, entered her heavenly rest Tuesday, February 11, 2025. She was born November 30, 1926, in Penhook, Virginia, to the late Alphonso B. Mitchell and Locky Pearl David Mitchell.

Frances was of the Christian faith and was known for helping many people. After graduating from Glade Hill High School, she spent many years loving her family and giving to others. She enjoyed working in her garden and canning the harvest. She lovingly helped raised her grandson. The family’s favorite memories of Frances included her selling tickets at Martinsville Speedway where the team all called her “sarge.” Her work ethic was evidenced during the blizzard of 1993, during which time she helped care for milk cows in two feet of snow while her brother was in the hospital. These special memories endeared her to everyone who met her.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki R. Holland; son, Daryl Holland; grandson, Mitchell A. Holland (Nikki); nieces, Frances Gose Young, Gaynell Angle Krista (John); nephews, William E. Spender (Herminea), James L. Spender (Lynn), Garry W. Angle (Barbara); many other nephews and nieces, Marlen, Randy, Dean McCrickard and Dreama Ann Austin. She also survived by her two wonderful friends, Kay Compton and Margie Dunn.
