Frank Garland Kingery Obituary Frank Garland Kingery, 91, of Bedford County, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully and surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Born on July 29, 1933, in Starkey, Roanoke County, to the late Isaac DeMoss and Ada McGuire Kingery, he was the last remaining of his brothers, Claude Kingery, Willard Kingery, Dewey Kingery, Creighton Kingery, Elbert Kingery, and twin brother, Charles Ryland Kingery, and sisters, Hallie Fernell, Elmeta Cooper, Mary Ann Kingery, Rachel J. Kingery, and Lorraine Trent. Frank showed the love of Christ throughout his entire life, in his 71 year marriage to the love of his life, in raising his children, in his church ministries, and as a friend to everyone he met. After losing his brother in WWII and to honor his memory, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He valiantly served in the Korean War, achieving the rank of Corporal. After the war, Frank worked as a produce manager for Mick or Mack for 25 years and then as a painter for Roanoke City Public Schools until his retirement. He loved to sing and was a founding member of the Kingery’s Gospel Music Group, wrote many Southern Gospel songs, and had the privilege of traveling and singing with his family and many friends. Frank was a member of the Nazarene Church for 60 years, serving in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School for more than 40 years, and leading an extensive bus ministry which carried more than 200 children to church every week. Recently, he joined the membership of Jordantown Wesleyan Church. In his retirement, Frank devoted much of his free time giving honor to veterans and those remembered in celebrations on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Every Wednesday, he could be found having lunch with his military buddies at New York Pizza in Vinton. Above all, Frank adored his family and was a loving husband, devoted Daddy, doting “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren and “Papa” to his great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 71 years, his “Becky Jean”, Rebecca Bushnell Kingery; son, Kenneth Wayne Kingery and wife, Susie; daughters, Dreama Kingery Overfelt and husband, Kelvin and Faith Kingery Lane and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Frank Allen Overfelt and wife, April, Mark Anthony Overfelt and special friend, Candy, Zachary Wiley, Hannah Wiley, Rebekah Wiley; step-grandchildren, John Kingery and Mathew Kingery; great-grandchildren, Autumn Overfelt, Caleb Overfelt , Isaac Overfelt, Simon Wiley, Rhodes Wiley, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Lewis Brandon and George Stephenson officiating. Interment with military honors immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
