Frank Henry Maxey Sr.

Frank Henry Maxey Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026. Henry was born on April 26, 1938 in Buckingham County, Virginia to Leonard F. Maxey Sr. and Etta Lee Self Maxey. He graduated from Buckingham County High School in 1956. He studied Agriculture at Virginia Tech and graduated in 1961 (Bachelor’s Degree) and 1962 (Master’s degree). Upon graduation he moved to Pittsylvania County to spend the rest of his life. He taught in the Pittsylvania County School System, retired from the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service and was a life-long farmer. In 1963, he married Linda Lee Arnold and they had three children; Heidi Maxey Oliver (Will), Hank Maxey (Debbie) and Hila Maxey Foutz (Matt, deceased) Seven grandchildren and one great grandchild then joined the family; Layne Oliver Davies (Ryan), Sinclair Oliver Berger (Kade), Wyt Oliver, Caroline Maxey Allan (Mark), Macon Maxey (Maya), Holland Foutz and Eli Foutz, and great grandchild Kal.

While farming and raising a family, Henry was a faithful member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and a founder, member and leader of many agricultural boards and social organizations in the region and state. His love of his wife, children, hunting and farming was only surpassed by his love of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his nine siblings. He is survived by his three sister in laws, many nieces, and nephews, who he always loved interacting with.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to a charity of their choice in Henry’s memory. The family thanks the Stratford House Commonwealth Senior Living Memory Care Staff and Hospice care.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA. A visitation will be held on the same day just prior to the service from 1-2:00pm, also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence. A private interment for family only will be held at a different time.
