Franklin Mathewson Bailey

Franklin Mathewson Bailey, 82, of Madison Heights passed away on April 15, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Franklin was born in Amherst County, Va on April 4, 1943 to the late Russell Mathewson Bailey and Nellie Burley Bailey. Franklin was a proud lifelong member of Sardis Methodist Church. He also coached youth baseball for many seasons. He was an avid golfer. He loved to hunt and fish. He was an outdoorsman that truly loved his Virginia Mountains he called home. Franklin drove a truck for Fritos-Lays for a number of years. Franklin was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Bryant Bailey, to whom he had been married to for over 54 years before her passing in 2019. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Bailey, and his brother-in-law, Gene Meadows (Geraldine). Franklin is survived by his loving daughter, Katrina Leigh Bailey and Shannon B. Powell (Randy). He also leaves behind a son, Franklin D. Bailey. In addition to his children he also is survived by his sister Geraldine Meadows (Gene+). He leaves behind his four grandchildren, Caitlin Davis, Duane Davis, Taylor Ellis, and Vickie Sexton. Franklin also leaves behind a cherished legacy in that of two great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 starting at 11:00 am with a one hour prior visitation at Sardis Methodist Church. Burial is to follow at Amherst Cemetery. Rev. Bob Parks will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sardis Methodist Church. Driskill Funeral Chapel is serving the family.
