Fred Elmo Harris

Fred Elmo Harris Jr., 91, of Vinton, VA, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2026. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Elmo Harris Sr.; mother, Lenna Saville Harris; mother of his children, Patricia Harris; brother, Harry F. Harris, daughter, Lenna Rebecca Harris; ex-wife, Nell Harris; stepson, Andy Andrews; and special niece, BriAna Lynn Donahue.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Catherine “Kitty” Harris; son, Robert Wayne Harris; grandsons, Matthew Harris and Michael Andrews (Tiffany); granddaughter, Amelia Harris; stepdaughter, Darlene Hash; great grandson, Eli Andrews; great granddaughters, Morgan Andrews (Kevin) and Andrea Keene; special niece and caregiver, Cathy Overstreet (Jerry); special family, Melissa Treadwell (Charles), Johnathan Chad Overstreet (Frankie), Caitlyn Franklin (Justin), Sophia, Addison, Ella, Mia, Miranda Pritchard (Jonathan), Maisy, and Emma Overstreet Kowen (David).

Fred proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Military Policeman from 1956-1961. He retired as a Dispatcher from Webb Oil Corp, and he was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church for many years.

Fred was gentle giant who had a great love of horses. He loved the Lord and his family more than anything. He also enjoyed watching and reading Westerns. Fred was true cowboy at heart! He will be truly missed by everyone.

The family will have a Visitation on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 from 12:00 – 1:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. A Chapel Service (also at the funeral home) will follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Tucker LaForce officiating, and then processing to Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
