Frederick Byron Sisson

February 17, 1954 - August 29, 2024

Frederick B. Sisson, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 29, 2024, with family by his side.

He was blessed with a devoted wife of 41 years, Tina, whom he loved deeply until his very last breath. He was a proud father to three children, James, Joseph, and Jessi.

Fred was an honest and gentle man who was loved by everyone. Fred was most recognizable by his small stature, long blonde hair, and staple Army or NASCAR hat. He enjoyed camping and being outdoors hunting, fishing, and playing horseshoes with his friends. He was the finest of pool shooters, a tradition he lovingly passed down to all of his children.

Fred graduated from Cave Spring High School and attended Virginia Western Community College. He was a proud US Army veteran and received a National Defense Service Medal during his service. Through his military training, Fred made a career as a foreman, operating heavy equipment for the County of Roanoke and Town of Vinton Public Works, as well as his own business, Sisson’s Backhoe Service.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Walthall Sisson; father, Asa (Red) Branham Sisson II; brother, Asa (Andy) Branham Sisson III; and sister, Kathy Sisson Journell.

His surviving family includes his wife, Tina Sisson; children and spouses, James and Diane Sisson, Joseph Sisson, Jessi and German Rodriguez; sister, Carol Eaton; sisters-in-law, Kathy Fitzgerald and Jennifer and Tim Bodine; grandchildren, Logan Sisson, Taylor, Josiah, and Ava Rodriguez, and Layla and Emma Sisson; nieces and nephews, Christy Sisson, Troy and Shana Sisson, Stephen James, Josh and Jana Eaton, Jaime and David Hunter, Ronnie and Jennifer Angell, Michelle Newman, Joshua and Jessica Newman, Tony, Melissa, and Keyla Newman; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Special thanks to the Good Samaritan staff for their care and support since January 2024.

To celebrate Fred’s remarkable life, we will gather on Sunday, September 22, 2024, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va., with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. and a service at 3 p.m. This will be live streamed through the funeral home’s website (www.johnmoakey.com) for those unable to attend.
