Gary Elias Szabatura
Gary Elias Szabatura, 71, of Monroe, VA, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Born on May 14, 1955 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late Elias Szabatura and Velma Sofa.
Gary retired from Framatome, where he worked as a manager in Quality Control. Outside of work, he found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed having a wide variety of pets throughout the years. He also loved spending time outdoors, especially gardening and enjoying nature.
Gary had a lifelong affection for West Virginia, which began during his school years there, and he remained a devoted Mountaineers fan. His loyalty to Pittsburgh was just as strong, as he proudly cheered on the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. He also enjoyed collecting stamps and baseball cards, building impressive collections over the years. Music was another passion, and he loved collecting vinyl records and listening to his wide variety of favorite music.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Darlene Elaine Szabatura; his son, Nicholas Szabatura (Danielle); his cherished grandson, Colby Szabatura; and his brother, Gregg Szabatura (Pam). He was preceded in death by his aunt, Emily Sofa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with Father Jim Gallagher officiating. The family warmly invites everyone to join them for a reception following the service.
Gary will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
