Gary Franklin Roop
Gary Franklin Roop, 80, of Franklin County, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Roop, and Tommy and Helen Sechler; and his daughter, Kimberly Roop Clemons.
Gary is survived by his children, Kelley Roop Brown (David), Tommy Roop (Mandy), and Gary Roop Jr.; grandchildren, Carter Williamson (Taylor), Bryce Bessell (Rebecca), Mason Roop, Harper Roop; great grandchildren, Evren Bessell, Faye Bessell, and Riley Williamson; sisters, Terri Roop Edwards, Sheila Sechler, and Connie Sechler; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dad was loved by all (including most of his exes). He never met a stranger, and never turned anyone away, and so is also survived by the many who called him “Pops.” He was always there to provide support, friendship and sage (sometimes useful) advice. He was truly a man who loved his family, including both blood relatives and close friends.
For over 40 years, he held court at the family business, AAA Trophies. He spent much time holding down the dock at Foxsport Marina on Smith Mountain Lake, but his favorite place to be was sitting in a deer stand, preferably in Highland County with his Clover Creek Hunt Club buddies, on a crisp fall morning. He passed this love along to his children.
The family would like to thank nurse Krista from Amedysis for her devoted care and support.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
