Gary Lynn King

Gary Lynn King, 77, of Vinton, VA passed away on October 7, 2026. He was born on November 11, 1948, in Roanoke, VA to Grover and Norris King.

Gary graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1968. He attended National Business College where he earned his Associate’s degree. Gary served in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972. He married the love of his life, Ruth “Gayle” Bain, on February 9, 1974. He worked as a Medical Supply Technician at the VA Hospital for over 18 years.

Gary loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, John. He was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He loved all animals and leaves behind his special canine companions, Huckleberry, Bonnie, and Clyde. Gary never met a stranger, and he always had a joke to share. He loved to make people laugh, and you never left him without a smile.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Grover King and his mother, Norris King; his mother/father-in-law Edith and Johnny Lytton; his nephew Eddie, his great nephew, Mason, and his special best friend and brother-in-law, Lynn. Gary is survived by his beloved wife of over 52 years, Ruth “Gayle” King; his son, John (Priscilla); daughter, Shawna (Dewayne); grandchildren, Coy, Shaylee, and Paizlee; his siblings, Brenda (Clifford), Ronnie (Susan), Rita (Hugh), and Charlie; Sister-in-Law, Linda; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 6 until 8 pm at the Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Bedford County Animal Shelter and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
