Gayle Carter Powell

Gayle Carter Powell, age 79, formally of Danville, Virginia passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Chatham Health and Rehabilitation Center. Ms. Powell was born August 29, 1946 in Danville, Virginia to the late Anne Jamison Powell and the late Alpha “Ace” Carter Powell.

Ms. Powell worked for the Danville Register and Bee in the composition layout department until her retirement. She will always be remembered as a kindhearted and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her two beloved sons, George Perry Evans, Jr. (Michelle Lynn) and Roman Carter Evans (Julie); two grandchildren, Roman Carter Evans, Jr. and Haily Evans; and her brother, Carter Powell (Janet).

A Celebration of Life Service honoring Ms. Powell will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Chatham Chapel with Pastor Joey Bray. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
