Gaynell Messenger

Monday, November 11, 2024 Gaynell Cooper Messenger (79) of Callaway Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving family and her faithful husband of 57 years, W.D. (Dee) Messenger Jr.   She will be deeply missed by her son Jonathan Messenger (Emily) and her daughter Lori Messenger-Peters (Jeff). Along with her wonderful grandchildren Kayla Messenger, Madison Messenger, Keira Clemons-Messenger and Kyle Peters.   Gaynell was preceded in death by her Father Chafe Lee Cooper and Mother Cora Iloe Cooper. Siblings Avery “Pedro” Cooper (Doris), Irene C. Ferguson (Albert), Cash Cooper (Betty).   She is survived by siblings Gerald Cooper (Vangie), Martha C. Brooks (Buddy) and Kitty C. Haynes (Jim). Along with many special nieces and nephews.   Gaynell enjoyed tending to her flower beds and gardens. She loved to decorate and keep her home and yard beautiful. She enjoyed watching the backyard wildlife that comes with country living but most of all she loved the time she spent with her husband, children and grandchildren.   She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.   A small graveside ceremony will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Callaway Community Cemetery with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Callaway Volunteer Rescue Squad. Everyone is invited to join the family for a meal and fellowship following the burial at the Callaway Fire Department.Arrangements will be announced by Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 VA Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
