Gene David Draughn

Mr. Gene David Draughn, age 84, of Mount Airy passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Draughn was born in Surry County on June 8, 1940, to the late Dallas David and Anna Beatrice Smith Draughn. Gene proudly served his country in the US Army National Guard and retired from Pike Electric after many years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Janie Jessup Draughn, a daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi Draughn Poore and husband Jimmy; two grandchildren, Abby Poore Hooker and husband Jason, Meagan Poore; two step-great-grandchildren, Alex Hooker, Kenzie Hooker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudy Draughn and wife Karen, Jimmy Draughn, Lonnie Draughn; a brother-in-law, Richard Starr; along with several nieces and nephew. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughn was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Jo Draughn Mosley, and Bertie Ellen Draughn Starr; two sisters-in-law, Effie Draughn, and Faye Draughn. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Reverend Alex Martin, Reverend Chris Dotson, Elder Marcus Draughn, and Elder Rudy Draughn officiating. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living for their care for the last two years, as well as to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care staff for the care given to Gene and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
