Gene Ray Hawker

Gene Ray Hawker, age 87, of Danville, VA passed away Friday, December 1, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hawker was born September 16, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Ray Edward Hawker and the late Macie Daniel Hawker. He was happily married to his loving wife, Patsy Jean White Hawker, who survives, of the residence.

Mr. Hawker was of the Primitive Baptist faith, and he worked for over 40 years at Disston, Inc. After their closure, he worked an additional 10 years at Dan River Mills, Inc. before his retirement.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by two sons, Micheal Anthony Hawker (Teresa) and Raymond Edward Phelps, both of Danville, two brothers, Neal Hawker of Richmond, VA, and Mark Hawker (Linda), of Danville, and a sister Dale H. Norton (Roy) of Blairs, VA. In addition, he is survived by three grandchildren, Christopher and Jonathan Hawker, and Richard Phelps.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawker was predeceased by four sisters, Nancy H. Moyer, Hazel H. Moyer, Dianne H. Powers, and Jeanett Compton, as well as a brother Ryland Hawker.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Burial Park, Danville with Teresa Hawker officiating.
