George Arthur Boone
George Arthur Boone, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.
George was the son of the late George Arthur Boone, Sr. and Vivian Mae Webb Boone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Bailey and Irene Tribbett, and his beloved grandson, Hunter Brandon Kalafut.
George dedicated much of his working life to Hawkins & Cox Crane Services and Avis Construction, where he was known for his strong work ethic and skilled craftsmanship. George was a retired member of International Union of Operating Engineers. He was also a member of the Arthur Munden Hunt Club. He loved being outdoors and found great joy in working with his hands. His many interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, beekeeping, and raising Beagle Hounds. An accomplished scuba diver, George achieved the rank of Master Diver and enjoyed exploring the underwater world. Whether tending a garden, caring for his bees, or spending time in the woods or on the water, he found happiness in nature and the simple pleasures of life.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Deborah Elizabeth Myers and husband, Rick, of Lindside, West Virginia; daughter, Lisa Boone Flora and husband, Terrill of Roanoke, Virginia; son, George A. Boone, III and wife Trilyon; grandchildren, George Michael Kalafut and wife, Monet, of Japan, Thomas Hunter Kalafut of Roanoke, Virginia, Leanna Marie Aldridge of Floyd, Virginia, Michelle Caitlin Housemen of Salem, Virginia, Noah Benjamin Shelton of Roanoke, Virginia, Lane Boone and wife Andrea, and John Calvert; great-grandchildren; Gavin Boone, Eli Calvert, and numerous other great -grandchildren; brother, Richard Boone; sister, Sue Leslie and husband Russell; his special companion, Loretta A. Epperley; and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family extends a special thank you to Trilyon Boone for the love, care, and support she provided to George throughout the years. Her devotion and kindness meant so much to him and to the entire family.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
George will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love of the outdoors, and the many lives he touched through his generosity, wisdom, and friendship. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
