George Frank Ross

George Frank Ross, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Born on January 11, 1934 in Amherst, VA, he was a son of the late Oliver Bruce Ross and Frances Locher Ross.

George was a longtime member of Ascension Episcopal Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was also a longtime member of the Moose Lodge #1727 in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he was a member for more than 20 years.

George was a man who found great joy in the simple things in life. He loved country music, feeding the animals and birds around his home, and especially dancing with his beloved wife, Barbara. The two enjoyed many evenings dancing together at the New London Ruritan Club. George was known for his wonderful work ethic, his reliability, and his unwavering support of his family. He was a great husband and father, a devoted provider, and a man whose witty sense of humor brought smiles to those around him. His steady presence and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, S. Scott Ross; two sisters, Jean R. Franks and Margaret R. Caskie; and one brother, Robert Bruce Ross.

George is survived by his wife of 71 years, Barbara Floyd Ross; two sons, George “Mike” Ross (Pam) and Mark B. Ross (Charlene); three grandchildren, Brandon Ross, Kristen Graves (Aaron), and Lela Ross; and four great-grandchildren, Christian Graves, Garrett Graves, Kynley Ross, and Bryley Ross.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Briarwood Memorial Gardens, with Chaplain Jarrett Banks officiating. American Legion Post 16 will render military honors.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Nayar Hospice for their care during this time.

George will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his generous spirit, his sense of humor, and the many years of love and memories he shared with those closest to him.
