George Hiram Atkins
George Hiram Atkins, aged 66, a lifelong resident of Giles County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, in Pembroke, Virginia. Born on April 21, 1958, George was known for his unwavering commitment to his family, his love for his community, and his passion for his work.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Canode Atkins, with whom he shared a life full of love and partnership. He was a devoted father to his son, Jeff Atkins, and a caring brother to Judy Franklin (Barry). George's joy was multiplied by his cherished fur baby, Molly, and he held a special place in his heart for his nephew and niece, Aaron Martin (Lauren), and Sarah Slack (David). His close-knit group of friends, including Rodney Jamison, Charlie and Diane Hunt, and Mike "Hammer" Williams, will remember him for his loyalty and camaraderie.
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Byron "Buster" Atkins and Rachel Williams Atkins, George carried on the family's legacy with grace and dedication.
George was the proud owner of Atkins Equipment, a business that not only served the needs of local farmers but also allowed him to make lasting friendships within the community. He took immense pleasure in the work he accomplished and the relationships he built through the sale of farm equipment. His business was more than a livelihood; it was a place where bonds were formed, and George was at the heart of it all. His interests extended beyond his professional life. George was an avid 22 Rifle match shooter, an activity that reflected his precision, patience, and competitive spirit. However, it was his family that remained his ultimate focus. George's happiest moments were those spent with his loved ones, whether it was a quiet evening at home or at a family gathering.
George's life was a testament to the values of hard work, devotion to family, and service to one's community.
