George Oakley Byrd

George Oakley Byrd, 64, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Hairston Home for Adults.

Born on March 25, 1961, in Martinsville, Virginia, George was the beloved son of Billy G. Byrd and the late Joan Oakley Byrd. A lifelong resident of the area, George will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and the joy he found in spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Joshua Shawn Lawson.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, Billy G. Byrd, Sr.; his brother, Billy G. Byrd, Jr. (Deborah); as well as a host of other loving family members and cherished friends.

George’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 12 Noon at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Danny Hart officiating.

After the Celebration of Life people are invited to the home of Billy and Deborah for refreshments and visit with the family.
