George Robert Manning

George (Jack) Robert Manning, Sr., 83, of Axton, Va. passed away Friday, March 3, 2023. He was born in Axton, Va. February 7, 1940 to George Arthur Manning and Lizzie Wells Manning.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty Ann Roach Manning; brothers, Roy and Arnold Manning.He is survived by his daughter, Alice Howerton (Scott); son, George R. Manning, Jr. (Jennifer); grandchildren, Brantly, Ainsley Claire and Aspen Howerton; Jackson, Jaime and Georgia Manning; sister, Catherine Finney; brothers, Stanley Manning, Ray Manning (Brenda) and Melvin Manning (Bertha); sister-in-law, Janie Sue Barker; brother-in-law, Jesse “Bootsie” Roach (Bonnie).Jack was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a supervisor at Sara Lee Knitting and a full time farmer. He loved everything outdoors including fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed taking care of his many farm animals.A visitation will be held Monday night, March 6, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home chapel and will be officiated by Pastor Jared Austin.
