George Stevens Montee
George Stevens Montee, 92, of Vernon Hill, VA, husband of Lillian, died Monday, August 26, 2024 after a prolonged illness. He was born to James and Mayme (Sikule) Montee on November 15, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI. Raised primarily in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, he relocated to Centre City, Mantua Township, NJ in 1965 when the NY Naval Shipyard closed. George retired from the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and the US Army Reserve. A Korean War era army veteran (served in England), Master Seargeant Montee also served in the NJ Army National Guard and was a member of the 114th Regimental Association. He was an adult Boy Scout leader, 3rd degree Knight of Columbus and volunteer at the polls on election day. George was an avid collector of firearms and a committed supporter of the second amendment.
In addition to his parents, Geroge was predeceased by his brothers Charles, James, and John Montee. His wife of 51 years, Lillian Helen (Nee Gill) Montee and an infant daughter Georgette.
He is survived by his children, Lillian Rapp (Richard), George (Faith), Paul (Diane), Charlotte Lickfeld (Ron), Martin (Beth) and Tara Hart (Dennis); 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; many cherished cousins; nephew and nieces. In addition to these beloved extended family members, George is also survived by his affectionate Brother-In-law, Charles Gill and wife Sue; Sister-in-laws MaryAnn Gill and Maureen Montee.
Following a Mass of Christina Burial, Mr. Montee will be interred alongside his spouse at Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery in Mullica Hill at a later date.
