Gerald Hughson

Gerald Wayne Hughson, age 70, of 917 Girard Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Friday, July 12, 2024 at his residence.

Gerald was born on May 10, 1954 in Clifton Forge to the late Isaac Merchant and Audrey Hughson Walker and was a 1975 graduate of Clifton Forge High School. He graduated in March of 1978 from the Art Institute of Pittsburg, and enjoyed drawing throughout his life. He was a machine operator for CSX Transportation for over 25 years and a member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton Forge. Gerald loved music and was an avid Washington Redskins fan.

In addition to his family, he was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Leroy Hughson; a half-sister, Teresa Crawford; and a half-brother, Jeffrey Crawford.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Denise Brown Hughson of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Kayla Hughson of Roanoke; a son, Marquie Hughson of Clifton Forge; a sister, Sandra “Polly” Jones of Maryland; two brothers, Tyrone of Clifton Forge and James Hughson (Dreama) Of Centreville; a half-sister, Pee Wee Crawford of Clifton Forge; a sister-in-law, Angela Hughson of Roanoke; a grandson, Aiden Hughson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God of Christ in Covington, Virginia with Reverend Pete Moore officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
