Gerald Ray Joyce, Jr.
Gerald Ray Joyce, Jr., 59, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 22, 1966, in Martinsville, VA.
Jay had a deep love for music, sports, and classic movies. He enjoyed collecting vinyl records and stereo equipment, reflecting his appreciation for music and the memories it created. A 1985 graduate of Laurel Park High School, he was active in athletics, playing football, baseball, and tennis. He worked for Louisiana-Pacific in Roaring River, North Carolina, for nine years. Staying active was an important part of his life, and he enjoyed CrossFit and was an avid runner. His love of sports, fitness, and music were all a reflection of his energetic spirit and the many things he enjoyed throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Catheryn Joyce; mother, Gail Duffy Acock (Ed); special dog, Jack, Jr.; sister, Tiffany Coleman (Rives); nieces, Claire-Warner Coleman, Baylie Coleman, and Bethany Praino (Chris); nephew, Zack McPeak; brother-in-law, Bob Flowers (Alicia); sister-in-law, Joanie McPeak (Steve); great nieces, Tatum McPeak and Teagan Praino.
A private family service was held.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Carol Albright and her team at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Elkin, North Carolina, for the compassionate care they provided Jay over the past four years. They would also like to thank Dr. Ana Ventura and her team at the Ravenel Cancer Center in Martinsville, Virginia, as well as the caring staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, for the kindness, support, and compassionate care they provided during Jay’s time with them.
