Geraldine Young Love
Geraldine “Gerry” Julia Young Love, age 89 of Rocky Mount, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Selourie Le Young and Pauline Powel Young; sisters, Loreta Young McGhee and Juanita Young Minton; and nephew, Steven Lee Minton.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Cecil Love; daughter, Wanda Love Martin; son, Wendel (Josh) Love (Pam); granddaughter, Holi Martin; sister, Delores Young Oakes (Steve); sister & brother-in-law, Mildred Love Young Gillispie and Clarence O. Love; nieces: Debra McGhee Wells, Teresa Minton Strichik (Larry), Mara Oakes McAlexander (Kevin), Leanne Oakes, Donna Wray, Linda Love Wray (Alvin) and Denise Young Bryant (Ronnie); nephew, Dean McGhee (Terri); great-neices, Kristie Nichols Fisher (Shane), Cindy McGhe Parmelee, Kristen Wiliams Ray, Julia Alaman (Chris) and Hannah Wray; great-nephews: Brodey Oakes, Brandon McGhee (Toby), Thomas Wray and Thomas Parmelee; great-great nieces and nephews, Brianna Parmelee, Kylie Parmelee, Aden Fisher, Caleb Fisher and Avery Allaman.
Gerry retired from Dupont after 35 years of service, and never missed a day due to sickness. After retiring, she worked at Dairy Queen and made the best biscuits ever! She worked at Rocky Mount Title for 20 years without pay, and there is no way that Rocky Mount Title could have made it without her. She loved to work!! She left Rocky Mount Title a couple of years ago to take care of Cecil, her husband.
She loved her family so, so much! She and Cecil took in their nephew, Steven Lee Minton, and also, their niece, Teresa Minton Strichik, after the death of their mother, and raised them as their own for several years. God and Family were everything!
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to: Davis & McDaniel Veterans Care Center (4550 Shenandoah Ave, NW, Roanoke, Va. 24017, Ph. 1-540-982-2860) and also requests no food please.
Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024 with Pastor Steve Tilley and Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. Interment will be private in the Love Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
