Glenn Dale Metheny
No Pain No Gain! Those words were often heard by Glenn’s doctors. No one ever heard Glenn complain during the decades of pain caused by his hip dysfunction. Every one of his six hip surgeries brought
new challenges, each time he remained a rock for his family and friends. When asked about the pain the answer was always the same; “No pain, No gain.”
What he lacked in mobility he made up for in eyesight. A crack shot with any type of weapon he was known for putting game on the table. On the lake, crappies were his passion. He could sniff out a crappie hole in any lake or pond.
Glenn officially came into our lives when he and Mary were married on June 1, 1979. It is perhaps destiny that he left on the same day 46 years later. Their first home, a tiny bungalow, soon became too small when the couple became a family. Patrick first, then Carrie two years later. Their home was always buzzing with activity in those early years. Family activities like fishing, hunting, shooting, swimming and when the weather turned brisk, cutting firewood. After all he had a bride that stayed huddled next to the woodstove in the colder months. For him, firewood was a currency of love.
Glenn provided for his family by working at Kroger for 32 years until his hip dysplasia forced his retirement from Kroger. Because of this, he had ample time to have an impact on his grandsons, Jack and Dylan. Their lives are forever enriched by their relationship with their “Pops”.
Glenn grew up with his sister Patricia and brother Daniel in an outdoor loving household led by their father George and mother Fredis. Their world revolved around hunting, fishing, shooting and reloading.
His close circle of friends has remained true for many decades, going as far back as middle school. Bill Jordan, Steve Williams, Mike Clement and his coworker Doug Catron were buddies for life.
The past months would have been much more difficult without the support of Good Samaritan Hospice. The family would like to express their gratitude to Sandy, Joslynn, Jimmy, Christa, Tammy and Clara for their skill and compassion in this most difficult of times.
We thank the many medical professionals who worked with Glenn; Dr. Kelleher, nurse Dawn. Dr’s Prochopchak, Fricka, Kelly, Kristina Miller, Jeff Akers and the nurses at Lewis Gale cardiac rehab.
Having rejoined his parents, his wife Mary is left behind with their two children, Patrick and Carrie, daughter-in-law Anna, and grandsons Jack and Dylan.
Only the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease could take him from the family he loved so dearly.
This world just won’t be the same without hearing his familiar greeting, “ Whas goin on?”
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Road Chapel. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. (540)366-0707.
