Glenn Douglas Hancock

- July 9, 2026

Glenn Douglas Hancock, of Huddleston, Virginia, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Huddleston, Glenn lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to his community.

Born to the late Robert B. "Bobby" Hancock and Dorothy Arthur Hancock, Glenn was raised in Huddleston, where he learned the values of hard work, kindness, and helping others. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Brown; and his brother-in-law, Raymond Kidd.

A graduate of Bedford County Schools, Glenn began driving a school bus while still in high school. One of the students on his bus was Alice, who would later become his beloved wife. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and serving others.

Glenn owned and operated Hancock Brothers, the family store that had served the Huddleston community for generations. Throughout his career, he also worked at Shoprite, Lane Furniture, and Walmart before returning to what he loved most.

Retirement did not slow Glenn's servant's heart. He returned to the job he loved most-driving a school bus for the students of Huddleston Elementary School and Staunton River Middle and High Schools. More than a bus driver, Glenn was a trusted friend, mentor, and source of encouragement to countless students. He took great joy in transporting them safely to school and extracurricular activities, surprising them with holiday goodie bags, and making every child feel seen, valued, and loved. In recognition of his unwavering dedication to the students and families of Huddleston Elementary School, Glenn was honored as the school's Support Person of the Year in 2026.

A devoted follower of Christ, Glenn was a member of Living Word Baptist Church, Lynchburg, and was a second-generation member of the Huddleston Life Saving Crew, the Huddleston Volunteer Fire Department, and the Huddleston Ruritan Club. He also faithfully served through Kairos Prison Ministry, sharing the hope and love of Jesus Christ with others.

Above all, Glenn loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Alice Hancock; his daughters, Angela Hancock Dowe and her companion, Harry Minnick, and Keri Hancock Hill and her husband, Andrew Hill; his grandsons, Christian Reid and his wife, Alesia, Adam Hill, and Michael Hill; his great-grandchildren, Reuben Portillo, Corbin Reid, and Amara Reid; his brother, Robert B. "R.B." Hancock Jr. and his wife, Mary Kay; his sister, Carolyn Mitchell and her husband, Charles; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rolen and Joan Burnette; his sister-in-law, Joyce Kidd; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and former students.

Glenn will be remembered for his unwavering faith, gentle spirit, servant's heart, and the genuine love he shared with everyone he met. His legacy lives on in his family, his church, his community, and the generations of students whose lives he touched. "Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23
