Gordon Jones

August 5, 1946 - June 19, 2026

In the quiet town of Appomattox, Virginia, Gordon Norman Jones, known affectionately as "Lightfoot," was a beacon of resilience and humility. Born on August 5, 1946, in Alpoca, West Virginia, Gordon was a man of the earth, dedicating his life to the coal mines, railroad, and worked as a laborer before retiring in 2006 from Wells Fabrications. His tireless work in the mines was a testament to his resilient spirit, and his humble beginnings never left him, nurturing a deep compassion for his community and family. He was a lover of the simple pleasures in life, finding joy in fishing, gardening, and the camaraderie of a good basketball or horseshoe game. A member of the Masonic Lodge, Gordon's community spirit was as strong as his love for his family. As John Holmes once said, "There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up," a sentiment that embodied Gordon's actions throughout his life.

Gordon was a loving husband to Patricia, his partner in life and love. His humble, resilient heart found its greatest joy in providing for his wife and children, ensuring they were always cared for. He was the proud father of Teresa, Aaron, and Gordon, his namesake. Yet his love did not stop there, for he was a cherished grandfather to Jacob, Corey, Ethan, Marcus, Jasmine, Tyeshia, Brittany, Markasha, and Na'Dyah. His siblings - Connie, Bobby, and Kennith - remember him as a loyal brother and a rock of stability for the family. He was also a respected brother-in-law to Michael, William, Clarence, Marjorie, Rodney, and Mario. His love and compassion extended to all who knew him, making him a truly upstanding man in both his personal and professional life. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren to mourn him.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Carrie Mae Jones, his brother Charles, and his sister Betty. He is now reunited with them, his light joining theirs in the heavens. His legacy of love and resilience will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Bruce & Stiff Funeral Home, 1121 Old Courthouse Road, Appomattox, Virginia, 24522 on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 12:00 PM EDT, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM EDT.
