Gordon Tinsley Burford

Gordon (G.T.) Tinsley Burford Jr, 63, of Amherst VA passed away on Wednesday, April

16 , 2025 at Lynchburg General Hospital. This U.S. Army veteran was well known as the

“Tree Man”. His love for trees gave him a vision while trimming or cutting so that they

would grow out beautifully. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon

Tinsley Burford Sr. and Claudia Belle Jones Burford; as well as two of his sisters, and a

nephew. He is survived by his beloved Deborah Lynn Wood who was with him till the

end, his daughters Leanne Wood, Dana Burford, and Holly Burford (Jesse); his sister

Beverly Noel (Terry), his grandchildren Alexis Knowles, Savannah Knowles, Corbyn

Burford, Cameryn Phillips, and Charli-Lynn Lawhorne, as well as numerous nieces and

nephews. He was also survived by his life-long friend Billy Wayne Turner, his caregiver

Sara Jacobs, and his cat Ethel Mae. A memorial service will be held at Driskill Funeral

Chapel in Amherst on Monday, April 21, 2025 at 6:00 pm lead by Pastor Jeffrey

Campbell with a one hour visitation following the service. Norris Funeral Services –

Driskill Chapel of Amherst is serving the family.
