Graham Hancock

April 14, 1940 - May 16, 2025

Graham Hancock, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born in Sheffield, England, Graham immigrated to the United States with his parents, Albert and Edna Hancock, and his sister, Joi Tatick, when he was just 8 years old. They settled in New York, where he began to build a life filled with service, family, and adventure.

Graham was a proud Marine, serving as a Corporal. He was a ‘Sea Going Marine’ assigned to Amphibious Navy Flag Ships, Amphibius Group Two. He was also head of security and driver for three Admirals during his four years of service, 1958 to 1962. He received many commendations throughout his career.

Upon returning home Graham served the NYPD as a dedicated police officer assigned to the Midtown North, 18th Precinct. He completed 15 years, taking an early retirement due to a knee injury. What remained with him always was his strong sense of duty and commitment to others. Those values shaped much of his life and earned him the admiration of those around him.

Graham was married to Nancy Hancock for 36 years. Together they built a life of love and friendship, creating many cherished memories. He was a devoted stepfather to Rachel Helems. He was previously married to Marie Hancock, with whom he had three children: Graham Hancock, Denise Delfranco, and Michael Hancock. Graham's legacy lives on through his children and his grandchildren: Laila and Ada Helems, Melanie and Angela Delfranco, Jessica, Vincent, Francesca, and Michael Hancock.

Known for his towering height of 6’6”, Graham stood out in every crowd, but it was his humor and charm that truly captured the hearts of those who knew him. He had a passion for motorcycles and shared countless adventures with his brothers in "The Enforcers,” riding through the streets of Fort Myers, Florida, and Franklin, North Carolina. He was active in the Fraternal Order of Police and Marine Corp League. He was honored by his fellow Marines by earning the distinction of the Marine of the Year in Franklin, North Carolina.

Graham’s life was marked by his love for his family, his friends, and his country. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Graham’s life will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel located at 305 Roanoke Boulevard in Salem, Virginia. A period of visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. An informal gathering of food, beer, and loving memories will take place from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Parkway Brewing Company located at 739 Kessler Mill Road, also in Salem.
