Guy Johnson

Guy Carson Johnson, Jr., age 76, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026. He was born on May 23, 1949, in Danville, VA to the late Guy Johnson and Grovene DeMott Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a faithful member of Hope Baptist Church in Martinsville. Anyone who truly knew Guy Johnson affectionately called him “Big Guy.” A competitive spirit, Guy enjoyed all sports, especially golf and tennis, and he was a devoted Blue Devils fan. He loved spending time playing arcade games, especially pinball, and never missed a chance for a little friendly competition. Guy cherished family vacations to Myrtle Beach and Smith Mountain Lake, where many treasured memories were made. He also had a deep love for music, a fun-loving personality that brought joy to those around him, and a well-known sweet tooth that always kept dessert close at hand.

Guy is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo Atkins Johnson; daughters, Robin Hammond (Kristian) and Lisa J. Greer; stepson, James Daniel Taylor (Maureen); sister, Judy Johnson Yates (Mike); grandchildren, Chance Hammond and Declan Hammond, Ryan Taylor, and Travis Taylor (Kerri-Ann); great-grandchildren, Kade, Myles, and Haze; and a host of loving family members. In addition to his parents, Guy is preceded in death by his stepson, Robert Gregory Taylor.

A funeral for Guy will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Norris Funeral Services in Martinville, VA. with Reverend Clint Connor officiating. Family will greet friends and visitors one hour prior to the service.
