H.C. "Shorty" Moore, Jr. of Appomattox, Virginia

Henry Cornelius “Shorty” Moore, Jr., 76, of Appomattox passed away on November 24, 2022, at UVA Hospital. He was the husband of Jean “Marty” LeGrand Moore.

Born in Beckham in Appomattox County on May 9, 1946, he was the son of the late Henry Cornelius Moore and Carrie Emza Martin Moore. He was a member of Grace Hills Baptist Church serving on The Wood Ministry and Community Gardening Ministry. He served during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Army and was a retired machinist at BWXT. Shorty loved golf, gardening, deer hunting, and keeping a beautiful yard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Moore Hankins and husband, Dale of Williamsburg, and Allison Moore Leffell of Salem; three grandchildren, Christian Hankins, Brice Hankins, and Hollis Leffell; two sisters, Mildred Schmutz and husband, Tom of Concord, and Nancy Moore of Richmond; mother-in-law, Jean M. LeGrand of Appomattox; two sisters-in-law, Susan King and husband, Kenny of Big Island, and Nancy N. Moore of Appomattox.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Fred, and Houston Moore.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Grace Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in the Moore Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
