Harold Wilson Young
Harold Wilson Young, 87, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026.
Born to the late Kermit Wilson Young and Allie Ersel Wagner, Harold lived a life filled with love, music, and adventure. He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 69 years, Barbara Hopkins Young, and his brother and sister, Carlton Leonard Young, Sr. and Roberta Evelyn Lawson.
Harold leaves behind his daughter, Cindy Young Mitchell (Mitch) of Somers, Montana; his sons, Jeffrey Young (Lynae) and Bryan Young; and his beloved grandchildren, Montana Grace Young, Adrian Lee Mitchell II, Travis Knott (fiancée Alyssa), Stefan Knott (Jade), and Robbie Knott (fiancée Skyllar). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to honor his legacy.
Harold worked for the Bassett Table Factory then retired after 30 years as an Engineer for Norfolk Southern Railway, and onto many more happy years at the Riverside Flea Market alongside his wife. During all of this, Harold continued to pursue his love for his family, bluegrass music, and fishing and hunting. In his later years, he could be found at numerous fiddler’s conventions, and local jam sessions. Harold also very much loved to catch a string of trout and hunt turkey, elk, or deer with his boys.
Harold will be remembered for his devotion to family, especially the great care he gave to his wife, his love for bluegrass music, and his passion for hunting and fishing. He had a no-nonsense attitude and took pride in his work and craftsmanship.
A funeral service will be held at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel on Wednesday June 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Joe Dillon and Pastor Mike Varner will be presiding. Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park.
Harold’s life was a beautiful journey, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
