Harry Lewis Francis Sr. Obituary Harry Lewis Francis Sr. passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, three months shy of his 91st birthday.He graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke, Virginia, enlisted in the Air Force, and became an atomic veteran while stationed at Eniwetok maintaining helicopters used in transporting scientists to and from the bomb test sites. After leaving the service he attended Roanoke College and Virginia Tech where he studied agronomy science. Those studies were put to good use in his final career as the Technical Manager of the National Lime Association, from which he retired in 1997 after traveling the world and testifying before congress in support of the association membership.He was predeceased by his parents, Joe M. And Florence C. Francis; his older brother, Joe M. Jr.; infant sister, Anna M.; and his wife of 62 years, Virginia Lee Johnston Francis, who passed in 2022.He is survived by his three children, Harry Lewis Francis Jr., Karen Hicks (Tim), and Sara King (Bob). He had four grandchildren, Chris Trump (Jenna), Rikki Heard (Austin), Harry B. Francis, and Ellen Francis (Nick); and three great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Sarver, and Jackson. He is also survived by his brothers, James S. (Mary Ruth), David B. (Barbara), and Robert W. (Beth), and their respective children and grandchildren.The family would like to give special thanks to Janet (Sissy) Winters, the nurses and staff at Friendship Salem Terrace in Salem, Virginia. They treated and loved both our mother and father as family.
