Harry Peronneau Ore

December 4, 1929 - May 15, 2025

Harry Peronneau Ore, 95, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed peacefully into Glory on May 15, 2025. He was a faithful and loyal servant of God, and member of Flat Creek Baptist church for 80 years. A loving and faithful husband to beloved wife Gladys Haynes Ore for almost 69 years, they journeyed together in the US and England for 16 of Harry’s years in the USAF.

Born in Campbell County, Virginia, he was the son of Artie Ore, Sr., and Alma Virginia Phillips Ore, one of nine children (six sons and three daughters). He is survived by three sons: Robin Ore, Stanley Ore, and Philip Ore (Susan); four grandsons, Collin Ore (Christy), Samuel Ore, Nathan Ore, and William Ore; 2 great-grandchildren Otto Ore and Allison Ore; sister Phyllis Tomlinson (Ed); sisters-in-law Hessie Midkiff and Shirley McDaniel; and a large extended family of Ore and Haynes nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Harry was a 1948 graduate of Brookville High School, enlisted in the USAF in 1950 as the Korean War began. After serving 20 ½ years, being stationed in Texas, New York, England twice, Indiana, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, he retired back home to Lynchburg in 1971, and went to work for brother Frank Ore at Cedar Hills Golf Club, taking over the managing reins when Frank retired in 1975, and running the course thru 1986.

An avid sportsman, Harry played high school baseball, enjoyed fishing, working on cars, bowling and dancing with Gladys, country music, woodworking, antiquing, and fixing things. He never met a car, machine, clock, or piece of furniture that he couldn’t take apart, fix, and reassemble. Then he was bitten by the big golf bug. In his later years caring for Gladys, he became quite the chef of country cooking.

He was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, devoted to his Lord Jesus. Loved his big Ore and Haynes families, their many reunions, and helping others. In addition to his parents and beloved wife Gladys, he was preceded in death by seven siblings: Artie Ore, Jr., Frank Ore, Howard “Blackie” Ore, George Ore, James Earl Ore, Earlean Loving, and Christine Crank.

A service celebrating his life and faith will be held at 12:00pm noon on Saturday May 24, 2025, at Flat Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Earnie Carey, Jr. The family will receive friends at visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the service, there will be a light reception, then interment at Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg.

The family would like to thank those who assisted Harry during his final days, especially Westminster Canterbury Rehab and Hospice Care.
