Hazel Virginia Durand

Hazel Virginia Durand, 83, of Martinsville, died on November 12, 2022, at Sovah Health- Martinsville.  She was born September 10, 1939, in Surry, N.C., to the late Clinton Edward Key and Virginia Bell Shelor Key. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Ronald Durand, Sr.

Hazel is survived by her son, Dr. Ronald Sayers and daughter-in-law Julianna of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Bonnie Marie Clutter of San Antonio, Texas and Kimberly Rae Sayers of San Antonio, Texas; great-granddaughters, Emily Marie and Emma Grace Clutter of San Antonio, Texas, and Hannah Marie and Kailey Rae Sayers of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Clinton Leon Key of Pulaski, Va., as well as many beloved nephews and nieces.

Hazel was a longtime member of Freedom Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the praise and fellowship. She was also a proud member of Woodmen of the World. Hazel spent many years volunteering at Blue Ridge Rehab, spending countless hours in the activities center, but her true passion lay in spending time with her cherished family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 9:00a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where a funeral service will be conducted at 10:00a.m. with Pastor Noel Naff presiding. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, Va.
