Helen Elliott Obituary

God looked down on one of His angels; He slowly closed her eyes and whispered, “Peace Be Still”.

Helen Ida Preston Elliott departed this life and entered her eternal resting place on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Mt. Obed Baptist Church of Concord, VA. Helen served on the Senior Ministry. She graduated Valedictorian of her class. Helen was a great cook and she poured her love and wisdom out to everyone who stopped by her home to eat. She loved family gatherings and left her great legacy to her family. Most family members referred to her as H.I.P.

Helen was preceded in death by her two brothers, Lawrence Preston, Jr., and Louis Preston; a sister-in-law Frances Preston, her oldest son David L. Preston and nephew Derrick Preston.

She is survived by her two loving daughters, Monique Collins (Sean) and Tracey Cheatwood (Ellis) of Lynchburg, VA; a devoted son Lamont Elliott (Tasha) of Concord, VA; twelve grandchildren, a devoted grandson Devonte Elliott of the home, numerous great-grandchildren; two devoted aunts, Lorraine Hubbard of Lynchburg, VA and Faye Pannell of Jamaica Queens, New York; several nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends “she was loved by all”.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Mt. Obed Baptist Church, 157 Vineyard Rd., Concord, VA. Mrs. Elliott will lie in repose from 1-2 p.m. at the church, with the service commencing at 2 p.m.

Public Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the funeral home.
