Hilda Hodge Helms
Hilda Hodge Helms, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, just days shy of her 95th birthday. She was born on December 8, 1929, to the late Finch and Annie Hodge. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband and childhood sweetheart, Rudy Helms; their daughter, Teresa “Terry” Helms; granddaughter, Lacie Helms; and her brother, Robert Hodge. A woman of warmth and kindness, Hilda was known for her love of working in her flower gardens and her dedication to her family. A longtime member of Allegany Church of Christ, Hilda’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. Hilda is survived by her children Mark Helms (Kym) and Penny Helms White (Roger); her grandchildren, Jesse Helms (Danesha), Casey Helms, Kelsea Ditzhazy (Austen), Hunter Maddy, and Parker White; as well as her great-grandchildren, Skyler Helms, Jackson Ditzhazy, and River Ditzhazy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lelia Helms, special niece Karen Hodge, dear friends Susan Sowers and Linda White, and many other cherished family members and friends. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Showalter Center for their compassionate care, as well as to the caregivers Bernadette McBride and Cheryl Matthews, who became like family to Hilda. Hilda’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the joy of simple pleasures. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Terry Helms Memorial Scholarship, CFNRV, P.O. Box 6009, Christiansburg, Va. 24068. Private services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 2-4 pm at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
