Horst Oedel

Horst Oedel, 86, of Salem passed away on April 7, 2025.

He was born February 23, 1939 in Heidelberg, Germany. Horst was a paratrooper in the German Army in the 1950’s. He later proudly became a citizen of the United States in 1976 and was sworn in by President Ford at Monticello. Horst owned and operated Salem Auto Glass Company for many years. He was a longtime member of Salem Presbyterian Church.

Horst was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie Oedel; parents, Valentin and Wilhelmine Oedel; and many brothers and sisters, including Wolfgang (John) Oedel who Horst was very close with and was a longtime Salem Police Officer.

A visitation will be held at Lotz Funeral Home on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 12:00 until 1:00 pm with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at Lotz Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with Rev. Chris Vogado officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.
