Howard "Bernie" Bernard Jackson

Mr. Howard Bernard “Bernie” Jackson, age 94, of State Road NC, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Novant Medical Center in Kernersville. He was born November 13, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Joseph Jackson and the late Nevada Amanda Howard Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lou Jean Brindle Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Elkin High School. After high school, he attended Brevard College, and later proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the 24th Division where he was an infantryman. Mr. Jackson was a Bronze Star recipient and was a machine gunner and assistant Platoon Sergeant during the Korean War. He later served his country as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Alleghany Post 7034 in Sparta, where he helped honor other veterans, and assist with the chicken fund raisers. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting, but in his later years he enjoyed just feeding the wildlife and listening to the NASCAR races on the radio.
