Iluminado Francisco Dumlao Almonte Obituary Dr. Iluminado Almonte, Jr., 86, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, in Salem, Virginia. Iluminado, who many knew as Jun, was a respected medical doctor who began his career in the Philippines as an anesthesiologist before moving to the United States. In Roanoke, Virginia, he managed a plasma center, dedicating much of his life to the medical field.Jun was the life of every event and party. Jun would light up any room he was in by telling a joke, which was fitting since Iluminado means to illuminate. Jun was a talented pianist, a hobby that brought joy to both him and those around him throughout his life. He often would play for the residents of Snyder Nursing Home. Jun also enjoyed traveling, painting, fishing, and photography.Jun was predeceased by his parents Iluminado A. Almonte, Sr. and the late Leoncia Almonte; and younger brother, Ismael Almonte. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Almonte, whom he affectionately called Bee; his granddaughter, Lexi Thompson, and her husband, Corey Thompson; his daughter, Amai Beard, her husband, Kevin Beard, and their other children, Jessica Meadows, Justin Beard, and Erika Beard; his son, John F. Almonte; his daughter, Yasmyne Rhiel, her husband, Joe Rhiel, and grandchild, Sarah Rhiel; his sister, Luzminda Basto, and her husband, Jaime Basto, and their son, Joseph Basto, his wife, Noemi Basto, and their three children, Myleia, Maia, and Maximus; his brother, Ildefonso Almonte and his wife, Elizabeth Almonte, and their children, Antoine and Alexis and her husband, Amine.; and the children of Ismael Almonte, Harris and Loren. While his health declined during the last few weeks of his life, he was surrounded by many of his family members. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.The family will have a period of visitation at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, 305 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, VA on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 4 – 6 pm. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Good Samaritan Hospice.
