Irene Smith Vaughan

Irene Smith Vaughan, 99, went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2026. Irene was born in Bear Creek, NC on August 8, 1926 to the late Loula Emma Barber Smith and the late Bailey William Smith. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Edward Cleveland Vaughan Jr.

Irene was of the Christian Faith and attended United Baptist Church. She was the owner and operator of the Ford Motel in Danville, previous to her retirement. She was also a loving homemaker, and loved all dogs and pets.

Irene is survived by a daughter; Marlene Vaughan and husband Richard Binghman of Tobaccoville, NC; a son; Stephen “Steve” Vaughan and wife Christine of Danville, VA; a grandson; Edward Vaughan of Tracy City, TN; a daughter in law; Wanda Vaughan of Tracy City, TN; many nieces and nephews, and her granddog; Buddy.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Irene was predeceased by a son; Edward “Mike” Michael Vaughan; as well as nine brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 3:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Edward Timothy Vaughan officiating, followed by a private family interment.
