Isabel Maria Tabeñero Damewood

Isabel Maria Tabeñero Damewood, 79, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026.

Born in the city of Las Vegillas, in the province of Salamanca, Spain, Isabel spent her early years surrounded by the rich culture and traditions of her homeland. At the age of 25, she courageously immigrated to the United States in search of new opportunities and built a life in Roanoke, Virginia, where she worked hard and lovingly raised her three children.

Isabel was known for her kind heart, quiet strength, and unwavering compassion. She cared deeply for others and had a special love for all animals. Her generosity, resilience, and warmth touched the lives of those who knew her, and her memory will continue to live on through the family and friends who loved her.

She is survived by her sister, Purificación (Tomás De la Iglesia De Castro) Tabeñero Carnero; her son, Richard (Anne) Damewood; her daughter, Domitila (David) Craighead; her granddaughter, Maria Damewood; and her niece, Purificación De la Iglesia Tabeñero. She is preceded in death by her father, Jaime Tabenero Valle; her mother Domitila Carnero Rodriguez; her brother Jaime Tabenero Carnero; and her son Larry Damewood. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside service will be held on August 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Coverdale Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and join in celebrating Isabel's life and saying their final goodbyes.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA in Isabel's honor, reflecting her lifelong love and compassion for animals.
