Jack Carter Dillon
Jack Carter Dillon, age 91 of Rocky Mount departed this earthly life on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 following a lengthy battle of lung cancer and leaving Betty, his wife of 66 years with a sad and broken heart. Jack was the youngest and last surviving child of the late W. Reedie Dillon and Flossie Board Dillon. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Dot (Royce) Carter, Dennis (Katherine), John Perry (Jean), Mary (Wilson) Slaten, Coleman, Herbert (Mildred), and Reedie, Jr. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, Deanna (Allen, dec.) Thurman, David (Kathy), Ann (Seward) McGhee, Michael (Linda, dec.), Jeffrey (Carol) and Sandy (Renee); as well as special Davis nieces and nephews; very special friend, George Frye; and his other car buddies. Jack was born in Franklin County and has been a life-long resident graduating from Franklin County High School. He served his country in the United States Armed Forces (Military Police) stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was retired from General Electric Company and was a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church where he and Betty were wed in 1957. Jack was a car enthusiast with particular interest in restoring 1940 Fords. He and Betty were appreciative of the care provided by his healthcare teams: Carilion Family Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Home and Hospice and also the Blue Ridge Cancer Center. The family requests no food and in lieu of traditional remembrances or flowers, Jack and Betty would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, neighbors, and church family that have generously provided assistance over the past several months. Funeral services will be conducted at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023 with Rev. Will Waller officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
